ANIMAL FARM QUESTION!!!???

Okay well I have to read this book called Animal Farm by George Orwell. At first I got the book from the library but I put off reading it and just turned it in. I have to do a written ignment on it though, so my mom bought me a copy today and I just realized that it includes another story called "1984." Im confused bc I dont know if it is required to read that part too, and whether its part of animal farm, or just a bonus or something. I'm just on chapter 4 and my essay is due soon and I dont want to waste my time reading 1984 if I dont have to, so if anyone who has read it knows, I'd appreciate your answers. thanks:)
