Is the arson burning of a church considered a hate crime?

If it had been a black church, Jesse Jackson and the press would have gone nuts, but it was an actual house of religion rather than a tax exempt house of liberal politics (using Gods name for tax purposes) - so no harm done is what the press is probably thinking.
